Character strength thanks to the new Mercedes V8 engine

In stock, the Mercedes AMG E 63 S sedan is already equipped with an incredibly strong 612 HP and 850 Nm. Mercedes has replaced its former 5.5-liter V8 engine with a 4.0-liter V8 biturbo engine. The aggregate comes from the same engine family, which was already impressively used in the C 63 or AMG GT. In the case of the AMG E 63 S it has now been adapted to its higher performance level. Dirk Bongardt, COO and Head of Product Development at RaceChip, promises, “the engine base of the E 63 provides us with the perfect conditions to use its power reserves”. And indeed the E 63 S with the RaceChip GTS Black installed, improves significantly with 98 HP and 120 Nm more power over the stock performance claimed by the manufacturer. The new performance values with chip tuning sum up to 710 HP and 970 Nm.

One interesting point to note is that the V8 engine of our E 63 S has 20 HP more than the manufacturer’s specifications, whereas the torque corresponds exactly to the data sheet. The stock measurement on our dyno confirms that AMG has planned for extra reserves here.

For the AMG E 63 S, RaceChip was particularly concerned to maintain the car’s special characteristics and add a finely tuned power upgrade. If you look at the tuning curve and the parallel trend of the stock curve, it becomes clear that this was successfully achieved.

Do you need more performance over the standard 612 HP and 850 Nm on offer? Of course not, just as little as you need a vehicle with over 600 HP at all. But, the great thing about performance cars is that we rarely need them, but we almost always want them. Therefore, there is one thing we can promise: If you feel the performance difference of before and after tuning for yourself, you will never go back to driving the stock model.
